Dohrn Transfer Partners with United Way to Feed Hungry Children

January 10, 2014

United Way of North Central Iowa in Mason City, Iowa approached Dohrn Transfer asking to start a partnership to help feed hungry kids in their area.  Dohrn Transfer didn't hesitate offer help.

The BackPack Program uses food from the food bank in Des Moines to fill backpacks with snacks and meals to get children through the weekend when they don't have access to the reduced meal programs offered in schools during the week.  This program impacts the 20% of children in nine counties of north Iowa who are food insecure.

United Way of North Central Iowa needed help moving the food from Des Moines to Mason City.  Dohrn Transfer recognizes the importance of supporting local communities they service.  It was the perfect opportunity for Dohrn Transfer to step in and help.  Dohrn moves the freight as often as needed for no charge from Des Moines to Mason City.

"It is so exciting to be part of this program with United Way.  These are kids who live right in our own communities.  The security we give to them by providing food to take home is so important.  It feels great to be able to offer our services, " said Heather Dohrn-Schmit, Sales Manager.
